Ohio Assisted Living Association

The Ohio Assisted Living Association (OALA) represents the largest number of assisted living communities of any organization in the state. Representing 319 Ohio communities, we are a strong voice on all issues affecting assisted living. Our mission is to promote the continued growth of quality assisted living in Ohio, and to ensure its place as an integral part of the long-term care continuum.

To accomplish our mission, we support assisted living providers through representation, information dissemination and education on all aspects of assisted living and act as a resource for the public on assisted living. We are very active legislatively, informing legislators about assisted living, impacting proposed legislation, and at times, initiating legislation. We also work on a regular basis with all agencies (governmental and other) affecting assisted living, sharing our knowledge and understanding of the industry and the issues before them. Joining our staff in this effort is our government relations team, Capitol Advocates, providing our Association with a broader and more consistent presence at the Statehouse.

Education is at the core of our mission, whether it be through advocacy at the Statehouse or in government agency offices or with members, keeping them informed and offering them opportunities to add to or reinforce their skills and knowledge in our field and providing them the opportunity to network with others in the industry. We provide these services through our website, newsletters, scheduled conferences and trainings. We also provide interaction for businesses and companies providing goods and services to our industry through our trade shows, on-line listings, and industry partner memberships. Finally, our website serves as a resource for consumers of assisted living offering a listing of communities across the state, a checklist for visiting and selecting an assisted living community and other programs and resources available to them.

Our Association formed in 1993, to ensure assisted living its own voice, is governed by a 17 member Board of Trustees and supported by member dues and activities. Our membership is diverse encompassing all the models of assisted living in Ohio, from small to large, freestanding to part of a continuing care campus, individually owned to corporately owned and/or religiously affiliated, all united by a commitment and belief in assisted living.
